The Calgary Flames is an international professional ice hockey club based in Calgary. The Flames play in the National Hockey League for part of the year, as an affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. The team is currently the third major league ice hockey team to call Calgary, after the Calgary Cowboys and Calgary Flames vs Montreal Canadiens. The city is one of Canada’s best holiday destinations, because it is located in the midst of beautiful mountains and Calgary’s airport is right in the heart of the city. The weather in Calgary is balmy most of the year, although in wintertime Calgary has a tropical climate.
Calgary has a reputation of having a difficultly team over the years, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not be a success. The Flames have been to the playoffs three out of the last four years, despite missing many key players due to injury and trades. With the presence of some quality players such as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Guy LaLanne, and others, the Flames are always a threat to go far in the playoffs. Some fans would like to see the team advance to the finals, but they don’t seem all that convincing the Flames can do so.
Despite their playoff appearances Calgary Flames vs Montreal Canadiens, Calgary is coming off of a disappointing campaign. The Flames only finished second in a seven game Eastern Conference playoff series against the powerhouse New York Rangers. The loss to the Rangers was the first major disappointment in the career of Flames’ coach Bill Bergman. He was fired after only one season on the job. The Flames didn’t make any major free agent pickups during the off season but did sign some good players, most notably defensemenmark Weber and Miroslav Satan.
The Flames haven’t exactly had the easiest time of their franchise, being mediocre for much of the previous three decades. However, this season has shown signs of promise, particularly with the emergence of rookies Johnny Hockey and Dougie Hamilton. Johnny Hockey has impressed in limited ice time, playing a valuable role for the Flames, especially during both situations in which he’s been placed on the blue line. Dougie Hamilton, while not as noticeable, has been even more productive, providing excellent two-way play and strong play throughout the team.
Flames vs Canadiens
This year promises to be a great campaign for the Flames, who have the luxury of a very favorable Flames vs Canadiens Atlantic Division schedule. Should they win, it would give them the opportunity to go to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in their history. Should they lose, it would be a big disappointment to the faithful, having experienced only two playoff appearances in the previous six seasons. The Flames are a team that need every win they can get, and this season certainly gives them the best opportunity to do so. The Western Conference is teeming with dangerous teams, and Calgary must prove that they are the team to beat.
This year is a make or break season for the Flames, who must prove to themselves and to the fans that they are not going to settle for second place. If they don’t, they could find themselves out of a job in just the winter. If they win, they will likely receive high bonuses and extremely valuable contracts, ensuring that they will be back in a rebuilding mode the following summer. However, a loss would mean the end of their season-long search for a championship. Whether the season is long or short, Calgary Flames fans must be patient, but proud of their team and the upcoming season.
